QUESTION:

Dear Dr Dunlop,

Wondering if you can help me with a small thing. My daughter is a commando crawler (just started proper crawling) so she drags her feet along the floor. One of the playrooms we go to has rough flooring so she’s on to her second sore on her foot. The first one has scarred - is there anything I can use to reduce the scarring? She’s 10 months old

ANSWER:

Dear K,

Thanks for your question and for visiting Kids Consult.

There are a range of silicone scar treatment gels on the market.. I've never used them in young children, so you'd have to check with a pharmacist as to their safety in certain ages.

Other than that, simple skin nourishment with Vitamin E cream is all you can do.

QUESTION:

Dear Dr Dunlop,

I was just wondering is this something to be worried about the little rash it’s on her legs and a little on her body she is a week old. Otherwise fine

ANSWER:

Dear S,

Thanks for your question and for visiting Kids Consult.

From the pic, it looks like a typical hormonal rash and I would simply observe it for now. If it's dry, you could moisturise.

Babies can develop all sorts of rashes in the first 3 months - often hormonal/heat/milk rashes that can be observed. If bub is well, less need for concern, however if you think bub has a rash and is symptomatic from it, then definitely seek a GP review.
